Steven Universe Returns in June!

In case you missed it, Entertainment Weekly published earlier today that Cartoon Network has ordered additional seasons for Steven Universe and Uncle Grandpa up to Season 5. Steven Universe, in particular will begin airing episodes from the 3rd Season coming this June under the "Summer of Steven" event.

A few fans got a bit confused as the first season was comprised of 52 episodes and assume the other season will also have the same number. Log Date, which aired on Jan 8, was the 26th episode of the current season and many assumed we're halfway through.

Matt Burnett then made clarifications on his Twitter that the 1st Season is indeed set at 52 episodes, but the succeeding seasons will be released in half. So 26 episodes for Seasons 2 to 5. Not much has changed as far as production is concerned. And remember, Adventure Time had seasons that last up to 52 episodes, while others were 26, so this isn't anything new.

Now word has it Cartoon Network France is catching up to the US in terms of episode releases and plans to release the new episodes of Steven Universe this May. Obviously, I don't have access to CN France to confirm this, but for those that do, "S'il vous plaƮt", let us know if CN France is indeed releasing the new episodes one month earlier from the US.

So for Steven Universe fans, it still is a few months away, you gotta be a little more patient. It is indeed coming.

Justice League vs Teen Titans Review

In an effort to capitalize on Batman v Superman, DC just released  "Justive League vs Teen Titans" today on digital. It is the latest in DC's animated movies based on the New 52 line of comics and continues after the events of Batman: Bad Blood, which came out this February.

The movie begins with the Justice League easily taking down the Legion of Doom, led by Lex Luthor, though it's never stated why, until they encounter the demon Trigon. When Damien Wayne, the biological son of Batman and the current Robin, disobeys his fathers orders and attacks Trigon with weapon with the near power of a small nuke, he is sent to the Titans Tower with the rest of the Teen Titans in order to learn more about teamwork.

Later, when Trigon captures Raven as part of his plan to rule the world, the Teen Titans run into action to save her. But standing in their way is the Justice League, which also includes Superman, as they are under Trigon's control.

Now I've said this before and I'll say it again. If you expect the Teen Titans in this movie to be anything like the original series from Cartoon Network, don't. They're totally different as they are based from the New 52 versions. For starters, Starfire is the leader of the group as she is the elderst, around the same age as Nightwing. Also, since the Teen Titans are played by different voice actors, it takes some getting used to.

I do have some issues with this film and it starts with Damien's character. Yes, he is quite the jerk, but considering he's been working with the Bat Family for some time now, he should at least know a thing or two about teamwork. But the film makes Damien even MORE reclusive just to get him to join the Teen Titans.

That being said, Robin is depicted here to hook up with Raven, as the two are kindred spirits. Sorry, Beast Boy fans. Starfire is the only character you can related to the Cartoon Network version as she retains much of that, but also very mature as she's an adult in this movie.

2nd Problem is Nightwing. Despite being promoted as taking part of the movie, he's only around in a few scenes and that's it. He doesn't even take part in any of the battles, which is very disappointing, considering not only him being very popular nowadays, but also as being a former Titan himself.

Finally is the "vs" part. I REALLY hate it when they use the term in movies like this because it's not what it seems. Yes, the Justice League and the Teen Titans indeed took on one another, but it only takes the time you need to cook a frozen Chicken Patty in the microwave for it to be settled.

The good ones. Plenty. For one, Phil Bourassa, who does the character designs for the New 52 movies, Vixen, and Young Justice, really pulled no strings in making the characters as good looking as possible. You will be struck in awe on the designs. And yes, that includes Raven. The movie also features a revelation that effectively ties much of the New 52 movies together, in particular the Batman movies that feature Damien.

It is very rare in media outside the comics that feature a villain not even the Man of Steel can defeat. And Trigon here proves to be quite an intimidating villain and places the movie in a unique spot where anything can happen. I honestly hate the fact that Superman is always displayed as the one-all-be-all superhero who can take on virtually anything, and it's nice the movie places Superman in a position where he can't win. You don't see that on overpowered characters these days and do it very well story-wise.

There is one part of the movie that is refreshing to see and that is Raven's backstory. Due note that the backstories of the Teen Titans were never revealed and if you want to learn more about them, you have to read the comics. Her origins in the movie explain her twisted relationship with Trigon, and where her enchantments come from. I also like that Raven has more powers here than in previous versions so she's actually more formidable than what she appears. While she starts off as a bit of a Damsel in Distress, she eventually grows and becomes a cental character to the film, a far cry from the classic Raven and thus you get to like her even more.

And if you happen to be a fan of fan-service, get excited because has lots of it. It even has a few Anime references if you can spot them.

Despite these few bumps, Justice League vs Teen Titans is a great film and brings the Titans back to its glory days and even more. I would personally love to see more stories of these Titans in the near future. And while we're at it, why not add in characters from Young Justice as well, to make things even more interesting. It is definitely worth getting this, be it on Digital, which is available now, or on DVD coming out later this April. On a scale of 1 to 5, I give Justice League vs Teen Titans, a 4 out of 5.

Quick Thoughts on Justice League vs Teen Titans

So I just watched JL vs TT and while the Teen Titans here are anything but the classic ones, and that it's more focused on Damien and Raven, they are for the most part, quite likable and in spite of a few bumps, the movie does take the Titans back to the glory days and even more. While you don't need to watch the previous New 52 movies, knowing them does expand your knowledge as this one ties them together at some point. It's definitely worth getting it.

I'll give a full review later.

Yet another problem with Youtube

So it seems YT is having another problem. Not only are comments not being published, but the view count is broken. Tried watching my most recent video and didn't see the counter even go above 0. That's troubling.....

Batman v Superman Full Review

Take note that for this review, I will include spoilers as to show my reasonings for this film. So if you have yet to see the film, I strongly urge to stop reading this right now.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Abbreviated as BvS, the premise of the movie is a series of events that pit two of the most iconic characters in superhero history against one antother. Around 3/4 of the movie or even more is all just to set-up this fight and why it should happen. By the aftermath, it sets up the events of the other DC movies that were announced way back. That's essentially it.

I will say that the actual fight between Batman and Superman is average at best. I don't think the fight can be made any better, honestly, except maybe if they let the fight happen a lot sooner. You see, I actually got really, REALLY, bored by the middle of the film and I was thinking out loud "Just get to the damn fight, already!". It just seems that the lengthy runtime for the movie was made for its own sake. I will agree with the critics saying the plot is a mess because there's just too many scenes that simply doesn't contribute at all to setting up the fight.

And then there's the issue of the set-up itself pertaining to Batman and Superman. What I find so jarring is that the movie removes certain aspects of the two. It's strange that these two people, being incredibly smart, ESPECIALLY with Batman's case being 'the great detective', yet they never got to learn each other's true identities up UNTIL the fight itself! And Lex Luthor happens to know their identities for a very long time, which allowed him to set-up the fight in the first place!

And speaking of Batman, besides being not so much as a great detective, despite the movie addressing he's been fighting crime on Gotham for 20 years (and do note, he's never EVER called 'Batman' and the name is only mentioned once), this Batman isn't afraid to kill people, directly or indirectly. Now, Batman has indeed killed people before in the comics, but this movie puts the killing aspect front and center, in an effort to make Batman a bit of a heel in pro-wrestling terms when it comes to the fight against Superman. Again, Batman not being 'the great detective' in the film means he couldn't figure out the entire fight was orchestrated by Luthor himself.

As for Wonder Woman, despite her being all over the place in the trailers and ads, she doesn't really do anything in the movie other than being a Deus Ex Machina in the final fight. The movie never explained what in the world she is there for other than 'just being there'. The cameo appearances of the other Justice League members doesn't contribute to the plot either and is a waste of movie runtime.

Other problems I have with the film, the killing off of some secondary characters. While these said characters aren't named, it was clear from their appearances who they are and even the credits confirmed their identities. I'm referring to Jimmy Olsen and Mercy Graves, who are killed off needlessly.

And then the final fight itself, which pits the Holy Trinity of DC against Doomsday. For those who don't know, Doomsday gained a reputation as one of the few, if not the only DC character that actually KILLED Superman during "The Death of Superman" arc from the comics. And while the final fight was indeed a REALLY great fight, it plays out exactly like one would expect from the comics. And when you know Superman will be back in Justice League, it makes his death in BvS not only meaningless, but totally deprived of any emotional feels from the viewer with regards to his death. The final scenes just drags this on as though it implies you should be saddened by Superman's death, but you're not because you know he'll be back in Justice League.

Therein lies another problem. After Doomsday, the next major antagonist has to be someone that provides a much GREATER challenge to Superman than what Doomsday has ever done. That's quite a tall order, considering this is Superman we are talking about. Again, this is DC sticking it up to Marvel. Where Marvel's Infinity War brings in Thanos. DC will obviously throw in Darkseid.

The movie does have some very good parts, however. Aside from the fight against Doomsday, I really enjoy Superman's struggle to be accepted by society because of his powers. This struggle, done within the movie's timeframe, is much better written and presented than in CBS's Supergirl series, and it also reflects the similar problem Saitama has in One Punch Man of not being taken seriously as a hero because of his powers.

I also enjoy Jesse Eisenberg's portrayal as Lex Luthor, as he seems more psychotic than cunning. And by psychotic I mean classic Joker-level psychotic. It does deprive him of being cunning like in the comics and the animated series. Then again, the Lex Luthor in the movies was never cunning to begin with.

BvS isn't as bad as the critics say it is, but it could've been a lot better if they made the movie shorter and removing the unneccessary scenes, so the set-up wouldn't be so boring. So in spite of all its problems, it is still worth the price of a movie ticket, or on home video if you want the 'R-rated' version with additional scenes. On a scale of 1 to 5, I give Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, a 3 out of 5.

Quick Thoughts on BvS

It's not as bad as Critics say it is, but it could've been a lot better and it really shouldn't be that long just for the sake of setting up the fight (I got bored throughout the middle of the film). Best goes to Superman's story arc and Jesse Eisenberg as a crazed Luthor. I hate the fact that certain aspects of Batman's character are either changed or removed entirely for the film and, and don't expect much from Wonder Woman. Also as I said before, the cameos are there for the sake of it, which is a waste. Finally, playing a certain major story arc of DC on something as early as BvS makes the entire thing not very impactful at all and the more the film drags it on, the less I cared about it.

I'll give a full review in a few days.

Netflix's Voltron Characters

So here's the description of the main characters in Netflix's "Voltron: Legendary Defender" by the showrunners (who's credits include working on Nickelodeon's Avatar franchise):

    >The pilot of the Black Lion. The de facto leader of the group. Mentor. Has what looks like a cybernetic arm, like a more handsome Cable. In the original Voltron animated series, he was a Norwegian pilot named Sven — so where did “Shiro” come from?

    >“In the original GoLion [anime], he was named Shirogane Takashi, and so we were trying to make a slightly more diverse line up,” said Montgomery. “We were like, ‘Five white guys! And one of them’s Norwegian with a weird accent!’ So, you know, we went back and looked at the Sven character, and he had the kung-fu outfit on, and he just looked the most Japanese, so we were like let’s just make him that way. They were all Japanese in the original”

    >“In GoLion, he was very much a way harder character than Sven was,” Dos Santos continued. “He had the leadership personality, so I think bringing that element to his character–he’s slightly older than all the other guys…”

    >“He’s cooler,” Montgomery shot back.

    >“He’s cooler than all the other guys!” Dos Santos repeated with a laugh. “But he is for sure their mentor.”

    >The pilot of the Red Lion. Mysterious and stand-offish, but ultimately a good friend. Not the leader, but an ace pilot nonetheless.

    >“Obviously in the original he was the leader guy, and we just wanted to start him in a different place,” said Montgomery. “He looks up to Shiro, but he’s definitely not the leader that Shiro is at all. And so he’s got a lot to learn, he’s still very impulsive, very rash, and he’s got a hot temper.”

    >“It gives him a good place to grow, too,” said Dos Santos. “He latches onto Shiro at times because Shiro’s sort of the only thing that can really calm him down and keep him in check.”

    >The pilot of the Blue Lion. Goofy, overconfident, and desperate for approval. Has the worst pick-up lines in recorded history.

    >“Lance, to me, feels pretty similar to the original guy,” Montgomery said. “Yeah, he’s like the ladies man,” Dos Santos added.

    >“He’s kind of cool, but he’s kind of a goof,” continued Montgomery. “I like Lance because he feels the most human. He’s got those insecurities, but he tries so hard to cover them up. That’s what’s kind of fun about him. He wants to be the cool guy. He wants it so bad, but not exactly…”

    >“The fact that he’s just not really aware of that fact makes him super endearing,” Dos Santos explained. “He’s actually my favorite character, and going back to the casting, I had never watched an episode of Adventure Time. So for me, Jeremy just sounded cool. Then everybody was all, ‘Oh, he was on Adventure Time, he’s Finn.’ I was like, ‘Cool! Great! Awesome!’ So for me, whenever I hear a promo for Adventure Time, I’m like, ‘That guy’s got Lance’s voice.’ This is weird!”

    >As you’ll learn throughout the series, Lance will hit on nearly anything that moves, but the game he spits is pretty groan-worthy.

    >“Believe me–[his pick-up lines] get taken to a whole different level, as he meets different aliens and different races around the universe,” Dos Santos said. “But also, he does evolve. There’s aspects to his character that will start coming more into the forefront as the series goes on. You’ll see him take steps to real leadership material.”

    >The pilot of the Green Lion. Short, thoughtful, and whipsmart. Tech-savvy. Desperate to find answers about his missing family.

    >“Pidge was the weirdest thing, because in GoLion, it was a little boy,” Montgomery explained. “In Voltron, I think it was supposed to be a little boy, but he had a man voice. It was weird to me. I didn’t like him in Voltron, because he creeped me out, because I didn’t know what he was. When we were going to make this, I was like how can I get behind Pidge. So we just made him much cuter and more appealing. An actually young guy, and he’s got a purpose–he’s looking for his family. There’s so much more to his story that we’ll find out in the coming episodes.”

    >“I think a character like Pidge, that could easily just get shoved into kind of ‘Oh, it’s the tech one,’ it’s the tech-nerdy one, has a whole story arc with their family still being out there that has a huge payoff, and allows the character to shine in a way that I think some other iterations of this cartoon would have just pigeon holed him into being kind of a nerdy guy,” Dos Santos added.

    >The pilot of the Yellow Lion. Large and in charge. Well not exactly in charge. He has a heart of gold and a stomach of whatever the opposite of iron is. Also surprisingly tech savvy.

    >So why is Hunk also a tech genius if Pidge is the go-to gearhead?

    >“They were all in the Galaxy Garrison, so they all took the classes, they all took the engineering classes,” Dos Santos explained. “Some were better at it than the others. I think there was that very grounded place that they came from. And in the original, they were just space explorers, and they were just already out in space doing their thing.”

    >"They were sent to find Voltron. That was their mission, finding Voltron,” Montgomery chimed in. “That was their mission,” said Dos Santos. “I don’t know. It was a hot mess. But Hunk, yeah, kind of being–he does have the brains, but he’s maybe not necessarily as technical. “He lacks the courage,” joked Montgomery.

    >“But it does pay off,” Dos Santos insisted. “The different planets that they go to, he does go and get different ingredients, he starts cooking for the crew. It’s good fun.”

    >“It was always kind of like Pidge and Hunk were kind of going to be two sides of the same coin,” said Montgomery. “Pidge is the creating, engineering figuring-out side, and Hunk is like the build it and make it work side. So they kind of team up in that aspect.”

 >Her Royal Highness and the last surviving member of the royal family of planet Arus. A fierce leader coping with tremendous loss. Unfortunate target of Lance’s “affections.”

    >According to Dos Santos, Allura “is way more than just the princess character, who’s just ‘I’m a fancy princess!’ And she was in the original series too. She absolutely took up the mantle of one of the pilots. I think she’s just got a lot more weighing on her and riding on her in this iteration. And all that stuff, all that back story stuff, will absolutely come to light, and play out, and we’ll get to know exactly what the origins were.

    >“She’s definitely got a bone to pick with Zarkon, [the villainous leader of the evil empire hunting down Voltron and conquering the universe],” explained Montgomery. “So we get to kind of see her personal journey. She’s holding on to a lot of anger, and you can’t really be a good leader when you’re so angry about something. So she’s got a lot of growing to do. She’s got all of her own personal arcs and stories that she’s going to go through. We just really want to make her cool.”

    >But, most importantly, will we see her don her iconic pink jumpsuit again and pilot a Lion Robot too? “I mean, we all hope that that happens,” said Montgomery.

    >“Yeah, I think we all would,” Dos Santos agreed. “I think with the back story that we’ve created here with her, she has a super, super important job. She pilots the castle, she powers the castle, she’s able to create these wormholes and stuff. And those wormholes actually pay off in a much bigger way as the season progresses.”

    >The adviser to the royal family of Arus. Easily the best character on the show. Pompous, silly, but cares deeply for the Princess and the fate of the galaxy.

    >“He was just like this super serious dude in the original,” Montgomery explained. “He was the strategist.”

    >“So the throwback that we have in his first reveal is when he comes out fighting and swinging, that happens in the original,” Dos Santos explained. “He leads them into the castle, and he turns around and tries to chop their heads off, and he’s like, ‘Just testing you to see if you guys are prepared.’ We all thought it was so wacky in the original, and we were like, ‘We’ve got to throw that in!'”

    >“He was very much the brain child of Tim [Hedrick] and our writers,” Montgomery elaborated. “Like from Korra, the Varrick character, we kind of look at him like he’s kind of our Varrick. He’s that could be guy who’s always good for a laugh. But he’s also got a ton of heart. He’s not just there for the yuk-yuks.”

    >“He plays such a huge part in Allura’s back story,” Dos Santos added. “You’ll see his evolution, you’ll see why he’s sort of the guy he is, and you’ll see him rise to the occasion and do some pretty amazing things as the series goes on as well. And he’s got a rockin’ mustache.”

First Look at Netflix's "Voltron"

So here's our new Voltron/GoLion:

Personally, it looks more like an Evangelion unit than a Super Robot with its slimmer design, but otherwise I have no problem with it.

Rotten Tomatoes Rating for BvS is.....

NOT good at all. As of this writing, it's down to 39%. That's 17% lower than Man of Steel and none of the MCU films have reached that low in number by comparison.

The most likely scenario is that Dawn of Justice would end up just like the Transformers movies in which critics HATE it, yet remains a blockbuster hit by moviegoers. And with China and other markets being the gold mine these days, it is still less likely BvS will bomb either way.

New Fairy Tail Anime

So a new series based on Fairy Tail is in the works. I've only seen the first episode of the first series, but didn't invest in it because of its sheer length.

Ahsoka (Probably) Meets Her Fate

So the season finale of Star Wars Rebels will show what became of Ahsoka after she encountered Anakin again, who is now Darth Vader.

Considering the movies never addressed whatever happened to Ahsoka, I would bet this season finale from Rebels will show her fate. It harkens back to my problem with the Expanded Universe (and I couldn't get into them no matter how much I try) in which most of what happens in Clone Wars and others is just trivial and doesn't mean much as far as the movies are concerned. I simply WANT the movies to at least acknowledge whatever happened in the Expanded Universe, but the narrative is set so that the Expanded Universe doesn't exist.

I get it. You don't NEED to watch Clone Wars or Rebels, play KOTR, or read the numerous books and comics to appreciate Star Wars and just go with the movies as it's the main narrative. But at the same time, such an attitude meant how alienated the Expanded Universe is because it's not critical to get into them to understand and appreciate the franchise.

The same can be said with the Marvel's TV universe as they are affected by whatever happened on the MCU, but never the other way around. AoS in particular already had the Inhumans become public knowledge, but as far as the Avengers are concerned, none of them are aware of the Inhumans' existence (you'd have to be literally in the same place as Hulk or Thor for not hearing about them).

What I'm trying to say is I wish both the Star Wars and MCU (and to an extent, DCCU) worked alot like the way the Gundam franchise is handled, specifically it's Universal Century era. There are numerous TV series, movies, books, etc. that all tie to the Universal Century timeline that began with the original Mobile Suit Gundam Anime from 1979 and continues to this day. Virtually all works acknolwedge the main narrative of the UC era and how their stories reflect and/or are affected by it, as well as contribute to the events of the main narrative of the UC era.

2nd Warcraft Movie Trailer

I should play Warcraft 3 again.

For Classic Kamen Rider Fans

Teaser for "Kamen Rider Amazons", the 2nd Kamen Rider product to be launched as part of the franchise's 45th Anniversary. Loosely based on the 1974 "Kamen Rider Amazon" series, Amazons depicts two humans who mutate into violent, flesh-eating monsters called 'Amazons'. Pun-intended, Kamen Rider Amazons will premiere on Amazon Prime in Japan in April.

Three Kamen Rider shows have previously aired in the US - Saban's Power Rangers Spin-Off "Masked Rider", loosely based on Kamen Rider RX; 2009's "Kamen Rider Dragon Knight" based on Kamen Rider Ryuki; and 1973's "Kamen Rider V3" which was released as a DVD Box set in Hawaii.

Digimon Adventure Tri Part 2 Review

So the second part of the Digimon Adventure Tri movies came out just recently in Japan. Crunchyroll, as usual, released the movie in the US by dividing it into 4 episodes, much like the first film. Also like the last film as I give my review, I will address the characters and terminologies from the Japanese versions, as opposed to the ones used in the English dubbed release. Spoilers as well, so stop the video now if you don't want to continue further. Otherwise, the review begins in 3, 2, 1, Kill Shot!

The 2nd part of the movie begins with a temporary peace in the real world from the Infected Digimons, giving time for the Chosen Children to have a vacation at a local hot spring. Joe couldn't join in because of his exams, so the newest member of the Chosen Children, Meiko, fills in along with her Digimon Meicoomon. The whole trip turns into a misadventure that covers much of the first episode.

In the next episode, a distortion causes Orgemon to enter the real world. Mimi, determined to show the public that there are good Digimons, has Palmon evolve into Togemon and engages in battle. But Mimi's effort has gone awry as Togemon's Needle Spray accidentally hits one of the news choppers. The battle ends with Leomon popping out and dragging Orgemon back to the Digital World. Mimi's actions, along with Joe choosing again to not participate in the conflict, causes further tension among the group.

Later we go back to another misadventure when the Chosen Children, sans Joe, attend their local school festival. The Digimons, not wanting to be left out, decide to crash in with a reluctant Leomon as their guardian.

In the final act of Part 2, Meicoomon is captured by Ken Ichijouji, the antagonist from Digimon Adventure 02. Leomon, Gomamon, and Palmon came to the rescue, with the latter two showing off their brand new evolution forms for the first time. After Meicoomon is rescued, in a twist, Meicoomon turns out to be infected and kills Leomon before returning to the Digital World. It is then revealed that Meicoomon was the true objective of the invading Infected Digimons.

As I had hoped, the second movie actually does much better than the first one, with the four acts pretty much done in a very episodic way as to being one continuous story arc. I really enjoy the misadventures of the Digimon in this movie as well as that of the Chosen Children. It makes the audience remember, at least for a little while, that the Chosen Children are still kids and deserve having fun from the conflict that's going on.

That said, the movie goes back to the discension among the ranks on not just how to deal with the Infected Digimon, but also their own personal problems. Taichi and Yamato have yet to settle their differences, but is set on the side for this film as it focuses mainly on Mimi's character and ego affecting the group, as well Joe's cowardice for not joining at all and focused on his studies, thereby affecting his relationship with Gomamon. The problems surrounding these two characters are far better written than was the case with Taichi in the first film.

The 2nd movie also provided some revelations towards the overall plot of Digimon Adventure Tri - Meicoomon being the target of the Infected Digimons; Ken appearing to be one behind the invasions; a history between Nishijima and Himekawa, the guardians of the Chosen Children, with Himekawa hiding quite a dark secret; and the personal problems of each Chosen Children serves as a trial that they must overcome in order for their Digimon to achieve a new evolution form.

On the last part, it does return the movies to the formula of the TV series where overcoming personal problems is the key for the human characters to allow a new evolution for their Digimon. I don't necessarily find this a bad thing with Tri and it is nice to see the new evolutions of the Digimon.

I only have two issues with the 2nd film. The first is a minor one in which it does have some animation errors, but it's not like in Dragon Ball Super where it's front and center and you will only notice these errors if you happen to have quite a good eye. The second, which I find quite annoying is Leomon. Why is it in virtually every incarnation of the Digimon series, Leomon ends up getting killed off? His death in the original series was quite impactful at its time, but nowadays his death has become a common trope on the franchise. So I wasn't really surprised at all of Leomon getting killed off in this film for the sake of revealing Meicoomon as a new villain.

At any rate, the 2nd Digimon Adventure Tri movie is definitely better than the first - a better written story; a much lighter tone; enjoyable slice-of-life stories; and the new evolutions. It's definitely worth watching either as a full movie or in chunks of 4 episodes. On a scale of 1 to 5, I give Part 2 of Digimon Adventure Tri a 4 ouf 5.

Zootopia Movie Review

So with the movie still having a near 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the numerous fan shipping of the two main characters, and in spite of the hullabaloo of the film being catered to the Furry fandom, Disney's Zootopia is now officially in theaters in the United States, whereas it aired weeks in advance elsewhere.

The premise of Zootopia goes like this: in an alternate Earth, humans don't exist and the animals ruled the planet. Through evolution, the primal state of the animals changed to a more civilized one similar to humans, thus creating a human-like society.

We are then introduced to the movie's protagonist, Judy Hopps, voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin, who becomes the first Rabbit Officer to join the Zootopia Police Department. She however faces numerous challenges as she is looked down upon due to her species. When Judy is assigned to a missing person..... I mean, mammal case, she teams up with Nick Wilde, a sly hustler fox played by Jason Bateman. What seems to be a simple missing mammals case, however, turn out to be something much bigger.

There's just so many things that makes Zootopia a really great movie and why it has such a high approval rating. The first and most obvious are Nick and Judy being very, VERY likable characters since their introduction. The way Nick and Judy are designed along with their personas brings so much charm, and added several fold thanks to the great chemistry they have together. With regards to the character designs, it does parallel to the ones featured in Disney's Robin Hood as well as in part to Winnie The Pooh, but transitioned flawlessly into CG. In fact, the book The Art of Zootopia features the 2D designs of the Zootopia cast that is greatly influenced by the designs from Robin Hood and Winnie The Pooh.

The world of Zootopia is also unique compared to other anthropomorphic films like Kung-Fu Panda or Surf's Up, or Flushed Away. Not just with the way the characters are designed, but the world as well. The staff at Walt Disney Animaiton Studio really put a lot of effort in making the world of Zootopia looks seemingly like the human world, but build by the animals themselves, with pieces of Zootopia made for specific animals, among other things.

Storywise, it is a buddy cop movie that delves into the serious issue of discrimination. But the atmosphere in Zootopia makes the subject easy to digest to viewers without delving into too much thought (it is a family-friendly film, after all). The movie has a good mix of comedy and drama that's not cringe worthy at all.

I am going to give my thoughts on the relationship between Nick and Judy. Fans have been calling for the two to hook up since their introduction, but Directors Rich Moore and Byron Howard made it clear the two are just friends. When I first heard of this, I thought this is just another attempt by Disney to subvert the tropes they did in the past, such as the case of in Frozen where the "True Love" trope of a guy and a girl was ditched in favor of sisterly love. In the case of Nick & Judy, the progression of their relationship was more natural. It's not forced just because they're the major characters and there is this build-up of trust for each other going on.

Now I've heard that the junior novel version has a slightly different outcome with regards to Nick & Judy's relationship than in the film. I can't however confirm it since I don't have the book. In any event, I truly believe Nick & Judy are meant for each other and it would be quite disappointing if they go their separate ways in future stories (if ever a sequel is a go).

In spite of my reservations with the Disney company as of late, Zootopia is, as I would say a "legitimate" Disney film. It's not a great movie just because it had the Disney logo on it. It's a great movie because it IS, and is a throwback to the classic Disney films. I will vouch for this to be one of Disney's best animated films of all time. Do yourself a favor and watch this movie. You will not be disappointed at all. On a scale of 1 to 5, I give Disney's Zootopia "a 5 out of 5".

Well considering we've seen Cena and crew in much of the Warner Bros. cartoons (thank god, they never pop up in the DC shows), this doesn't surprise me.

New Angry Birds Trailer

You know, I only played the very first Angry Birds and didn't get far to it. I guess I just lost interest after awhile.
