One of the staff members of the Netflix series gave info on his Tumblr post. Here is the full excerpt:
"For everyone put-off by Voltron: Legendary Defender’s pacing,
ending, and seemingly low episode count for the season: the “Netflix
season” is technically not that. When it comes to their animated shows,
Netflix has recently been splitting up season orders into two different
seasons in order to have a decent amount of episodes as fast as
possible. It’s a bit annoying, but it beats the alternative of having to
wait a long time for updates of five new episodes.
So, “season
one” is less a full season and more of the first half of the actual
season. It also means that, yes, there are more episodes to come later
on. "
With the upcoming Comic Book series coming next month, my bet is that the next season comes as soon as the comic is finished.
