Invader Zim on a Cartoon Network show?

Lasso & Comet is the fifth pilot for Cartoon Network in contention to be picked up for a new series. There is one notable difference. At least as of this recording, for whatever the reason, the pilot is aired exclusively on Cartoon Network Asia, and it has yet to surface on other branches, including the US.

Lasso is a jungle boy of sorts who, with his friend Comet, who is literally a comet, fly around the world goofing around and stuff. Claude, a member of the Cloud Police, stops the duo and promises that he will clear them of all of their air traffic violations, if they stop a Godzilla-like creature from attacking the sole bird that is a key component of the natural food cycle. Basically, if the bird is kaput, then the world's supply of fruit vanishes as well.

Lasso and Comet, although successful in driving the monster away, got the bird knocked unconscious in the process. So while Claude tries to stop the monster from messing around in the air, Lasso & Comet must bring the bird back to full recovery, all while fighting off a horde of baddies who want the bird for themselves to control the world's fruit population, or something of the sort.

Lasso & Comet is created by Ivan Dixon, who with his animation studio Rubber House, based in Australia, is known to provide animation bumpers for Cartoon Network and Adult Swim. They do have a Youtube channel so you can check out some of their work.

As far as I know, this is Rubber House's first foray into a full-length animation series, provided Cartoon Network picks it up, of course. Animation-wise, the design, animation flow, and atmosphere in Lasso & Comet is reminiscent of that in the 90's-early 2000's cartoons. Combined with its unique music and you would think for a moment that this was an anime series. I honestly can't recall a well-known anime with a jungle setting, however. Newcomer Dante Vittorio R. Mangini plays Lasso, while Daniele Brooks, from Netflix's Orange is The New Black, is the voice of Comet, and Invader Zim himself, Richard Horvitz, is Claude.

I can pretty much see that the reason why Lasso & Comet is exclusive to Cartoon Network Asia is that the overall presentation pretty much suits that region and may not get that much of a footing in the United States. If I were to best describe Lasso & Comet, it would be Adventure Time with a jungle setting. Overall, the pilot is ok and I see no problem with it, but it gives me the same feels as The Loud House, Milo Murphy's Law, Clarence, and We Bare Bears, of which is a series I'll just catch random episodes of whenever and not really fully commit to it, even with Invader Zim on the show.

You can check out the pilot of Lasso & Comet on Cartoon Network Asia's official Youtube Channel. As for whether it gets premiere elsewhere, or even get picked up as a full series, we'll just have to wait and see.
