My Hero Academia slammed for WWII reference

The hashtag #APOLOGIZE_HORIKOSHI is currently trending on Twitter regarding the backlash against My Hero Academia creator Kohei Horikoshi for introducing a character named "Maruta Shiga", as the name "Maruta" shares the same name of Unit 731, the Japanese prison cramp in WWII. Shonen Jump released the following statement over the incident.

Despite the above statement, some 'fans' are still calling for the cancellation of the MHA manga. It is worth noting that most of the backlash come from mainland China and South Korea. As such, the backlash is also being used as part of Anti-Japanese propaganda, and pushing the narrative that "Japan has not apologized/punished enough" for the atrocities happened in World War II.

Who Wants DBZ's Narrator To Do Video Packages for All Elite Wrestling?

Kyle Herbert, narrator for the American dub version of Dragon Ball Z, is interested in being the narrator for video promos for All Elite Wrestling.

Herbert also played as the adult Gohan and the Ox King in the series. Besides Dragon Ball, Herbert also provided the voices of Kiba in Naruto, Aizen in Bleach, Kamina in Gurren Lagann (where he is named Best Voice Actor in 2009), and the official English voice of Ryu in Street Fighter.

FYI: All Elite Wrestling (AEW) is an upcoming US wrestling promotion founded by the Khan Family (owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars). Among its roster are members of The Elite (The Young Bucks, Hangman Page, Cody Rhodes), SoCal Uncensored, WWE's Chris Jericho, and PAC (aka Neville).

AEW's first major show "Double or Nothing" is set for May 25th at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas.

New Dragon Ball Super episodes announced at NATPE Licensing Convention

UPDATE: Toei Animation has denied of any plans to produce new episodes of Dragon Ball Super at this time.

UPDATE 2: Dragon Ball super fan and Youtuber Geekdom 101 has made a tweet refuting Toei's denial of new Dragon Ball Super episodes.

Original Story is below:

Toei made an announcement at the NATPE (National Association of Television Program Executives) convention in Miami regarding new episodes of Dragon Ball Super, among other anime projects. Here's a highlight image of the announcement provided by Kanzenshuu:

There is still no set date as to when the new episodes will be released. However, the current GeGeGe no Kitaro anime series (which took over DBS's timeslot) is near the end of its run with 10 episodes or less left to go as of this writing. As there is yet to be an announcement of a new series to replace GeGeGe no Kitaro come April of this year, there is a small possibility that Dragon Ball Super may return to that timeslot. DBS debuted on Japan's Fuji TV on June 20th, 2015, just a little over two months after the theatrical release of Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F.

Dragon Ball Super: Broly's Box Office Performance in The US

So the weekend Box Office numbers in the US are in, and as you can see in the photo, Dragonball Super: Broly made quite a good amount of money in its debut. It's also one of only 2 new releases that made the Top 10.

I've been reading a lot of posts of DBS: Broly's performance in Facebook and a lot of them try to make the narrative that it had earned a lot more money than its competing movies, especially animated films. Of course, a simple Google search would reveal that is not the case. What IS certain is that it has surpassed Resurrection F's near $65 million worldwide gross, making DBS: Broly the highest grossing Dragonball film of all time. It is also currently the highest grossing film from Toei, which produces the anime.

What's more interesting is that it is on route to making the $100 million gross mark - something the Dragonball movies have never done before. The last film that earned it was last year's Dectective Conan: Zero The Enforcer sitting at $106 million, while Pokemon: The Movie 2000 is the 10th highest grossing anime of all time with around $134 million. Both Toei and DB fans would be extremely happy if DBS: Broly's BO performance manages to surpass these two movies before the end of its run.

From the Adventure Time subreddit, which got the info from CN Korea's Customer Service, the final four episodes of Adventure Time (compiled under the title "The Ultimate Adventure") has its four titles revealed:

No release date yet of the finale as of this writing.

The previous four episodes of the show's final season (Blenanas; Jake The Starchild; Temple of Mars; Gumbaldia) were aired on Cartoon Network USA on March 18th of this year, with the digital releases a week or two before.

Mob Psycho 100 2nd Season Teased

A tweet by user moetron featured a short teaser that announces the series's 2nd season.

Based on a webcomic series by ONE (creator of One Punch Man), Mob Psycho 100 is of the title character Mob, a young teenager with powerful psychic abilities who contains them by keeping his emotions in check. The series was adapted into an anime series by Studio Bones in 2016. A live-action adaptation is currently airing on Netflix in Japan.

ONE tweeted in 2017 that the Mob Psycho 100 webcomic is finished. More recently, a spin-off manga featuring Mob's master Reigen, is announced to be released on Shogakukan's Manga ONE app this week.

Rurouni Kenshin Creator Avoids Jail Time For Child Porn

According a report translated by SoraNews, Nobuhiro Watsuki, creator of the Rurouni Kenshin series, will not be facing jail time as per the Tokyo Summary Court.

Watsuki was arrested late last year for possession of child pornography. Under Japan's Child Prostitution and Child Pornography Law, possession of material depicting minors naked or engaged in sexual activity results in up to one year imprisonment or a fine of One Million Yen (over $9000). The statute exempts fictional minors depicted in anime, manga, and CGI.

On Feb 27th, the Tokyo Summary Court has sentenced Watsuki to only pay a fine of 200,000 yen (around $1900).

Japanese publisher Shueisha, who serialized the Rurouni Kenshin manga in Shonen Jump, has suspended the release of the ongoing sequel manga, while TV broadcasts of the Ruruoni Kenshin live-action movies are canceled in Japan, altogether.

Sad News for Sonic The Hedgehog Comic Fans

Some of the characters from the Sonic The Hedgehog series from Archie Comics will not likely to return at all when it moves to IDW Publishing.

In the Q&A portion of the Bumblekast Podcast, Ian Flynn, former chief writer for the Sonic The Hedgehog comic books for Archie, has confirmed that characters that were originally made in the Archie comics will not transition to the IDW version. Flynn reprises his role as chief writer for the IDW series.

Released in 1991 for the Sega Genesis, Sonic The Hedgehog was a huge success and launched SEGA into a leading video game company, rivaling Nintendo throughout the 1990's. Sonic became the company's official mascot and numerous video games of the character have been released. The most recent entry, Sonic Forces, came out for the PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch in November of 2017.

Running from 1993 to 2016 at 290 issues, Archie Comics's adaptation of the Sonic The Hedgehog video game franchise by SEGA was formally recognized by the Guinness World Records as the longest running series based on a video game. In 2013, former writer Ken Penders filed a lawsuit against Archie Comics for ownership of the characters he created in the comics. 3 years later, a similar lawsuit was filed by Scott Fulop, also a former writer for the Sonic series in the comics.

Following these lawsuits, SEGA, which owns the Sonic franchise, announced in July 19 of 2017 that it's ending its partnership with Archie Comics. IDW would be announced as the new publisher of the comics 2 days later and the IDW version will be a reboot of the series. The first issue of IDW's Sonic The Hedgehog will be released in April of 2018.

Mob Psycho 100 Webcomic Finale This Week

ONE, the creator of One Punch Man, has announced on Twitter that his other series, Mob Psycho 100, is complete. The final chapter of the webcomic series will be released this week. Due to ONE focusing his work on Mob Psycho 100, the original One Punch Man webcomic has been placed on hiatus for several months.

Published in Ura Sunday as a digital webcomic series in 2012, Mob Psycho 100 is of the title character Mob, a naive teenager who happens to be the world's most powerful esper. Mob keeps his emotions in check to prevent his psychic abilities from being unleashed to its full potential as they extremely powerful and destructive. The webcomic was adapted to an anime series by Studio Bones (My Hero Academia) that aired in Japan in 2016. An English-dubbed version was produced by FUNimation that same year. A live-action adaptation of Mob Psycho 100 is planned for release on Netflix in 2018.

One Punch Man is an ongoing, self-published webcomic series in 2009. It depicts Saitama, an overpowered superhero who, after defeating his enemies with one punch, grows bored and seeks to find an opponent worthy of him unleashing his full power. It was proved to be so popular that in 2012, it was adapted into a manga series with illustrations by Yusuke Murata and published in Young Jump's Web Comics site. The manga remake would serve as the basis for the anime series produced by Studio Madhouse (Daeth Note, Black Lagoon, Hunter x Hunter) in 2016. The second season is planned for release in 2018 and will be produced by JC Staff (Food Wars, A Certain Magical Index). English versions of the manga and anime adaptations are available by Viz Media.

Universal and Sony in a Bidding War to buy FUNimation

When you think of FUNimation, you can think of several popular Anime that have made it in America. Among them of course, is the Dragon Ball franchise. Being the biggest licensor and distributor of Anime in the U.S. has caught the attention of Hollywood.

Bloomberg has reported that Sony and Universal are interested in purchasing FUNimation, eyeing the latter's success in home video and streaming releases. Indeed, box sets of the US dubbed Dragon Ball Z series is priced higher than box sets of popular live-action shows. And thanks to the loyal fan base of Anime fans, people are willing to pay top dollar for the DBZ box set - something hardly seen anywhere else.

Sony, for their part, already has its subsidiary Aniplex distribute Anime locally, though mostly in Asian markets. I would think having Sony buy FUNimation would mean we could see more Anime from Aniplex getting a Western release.

Universal of course is part of media conglomerate NBCUniversal, which has a large number of film and TV entities under their belt among others, including Universal Studios and Dreamworks, and TV/Cable networks like NBC. If Universal gets to buy FUNimation, there's a chance the upcoming Dragon Ball Z attraction in Universal Studios Japan may be made available in Hollywood or Orlando.

Nyaa Shutsdown, Leaving Anime Fans Stranded

Nyaa is one of the most well known torrent websites within the anime community and since its began operations, has not faced any legal action from authorities over distributing torrents of Japanese content, from anime to live-action, music, books, and even at times pornography. Sites like Kissanime have relied on Nyaa for both RAW and translated releases for their streaming site.

However, Torrentfreak has recently reported that Nyaa has been shut down, with all its registry and domain names removed. The reasons of the shutdown remain unclear, but people within social media have suspected either the recent laws in the UK giving a 10 year jail sentence for internet piracy, and/or news that the Trump Administration has placed Canada and Switzerland under their watchlist, also for internet piracy, as factors.

What is certain now is that the shutdown of Nyaa means streaming sites like Kissanime will not be able to air the latest episodes of currently running anime on time, if not at all, including Dragon Ball Super, Attack on Titan Season 2, My Hero Academia, Berserk, Boruto - Naruto Next Generations, etc. Those who wish to watch the latest episodes of their favorite anime will have to find alternate means where available.

Alleged Marvel Leaks Details

Got these leaks from /co/ so take them with a grain of salt. Also spoilers.

    >SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING - Test-screenings have been very positive so far. Angourie Rice is playing Gwen Stacy. Logan Marshall-Green is playing Jackson Brice. Donald Glover is playing Hobie Brown. The Vulture doesn't die and there are plans to bring Michael Keaton back further down the line.

    >THOR: RAGNAROK - In post-production and coming along nicely. The Soul Stone is introduced. Thor finds out about Thanos just as Asgard, the universe's first line of defense, is nearly destroyed, leaving the cosmos unprotected. He then returns to Earth to recruit the Avengers to help him fight Thanos.

    >BLACK PANTHER - Just wrapped filming. It's a standalone movie and it's more serious, in the same vein as "Captain America: The Winter Soldier". Sebastian Stan makes an appearance as Bucky Barnes.

    >ANT-MAN & THE WASP - Gearing up for production. It's standalone and set simultaneously to "Avengers: Infinity War". Same humorous tone as the first movie. JulIianne Moore is in early talks to play the original Wasp, Janet Van Dyne. Jared Harris is in advanced talks to play the main villain.

    >CAPTAIN MARVEL - In pre-production. Carol Danvers will be briefly introduced in "Avengers: Infinity War". Yon-Rogg is slated to be the villain. Richard Rider will also be featured ahead a potential movie about his transformation into Nova.

    >AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR - Filming. The core characters are Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, Vision, Falcon, Winter Soldier, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange and the Guardians of the Galaxy, although other make appearances. The Black Order is featured as Thanos' enforcers, formed by Corvus Glaive, Proxima Midnight, Ebony Maw and Black Dwarf. Peter Dinklage is playing Pip the Troll. The plot revolves around the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy joining forces to collect the Infinity Stones before Thanos. Thanos reveals that he masterminded numerous events right down to Loki's defeat at the hands of the Avengers to facilitate the creation of the Infinity Gauntlet and destroys an en entire galaxy with it. The heroes manage to retreat back to Earth, defeated, but refuse to give up and decide to assemble an army to stop Thanos.

    >AVENGERS 4 - Pre-production. The culmination of the entire MCU so far and the final battle against Thanos. Numerous characters will die, but some of these deaths will be reverted at the end of the movie through the Infinity Stones. The most notable permanent deaths are Captain America and Odin, setting up Bucky becoming Captain America and Thor becoming king of Asgard. Iron Man will retire but the door will be left open for future appearances.

    >PHASE 4 - Early development, therefore subjected to change. There are talks about separating upcoming movies between Cosmic Marvel and Earth Marvel and having each pocket follow their own overarching storylines, although nothing quite as ambitious as the Infinity Saga. The Russos and James Gunn will be creative consultants throughout the whole process. "Doctor Strange 2", "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" and the "Spider-Man: Homecoming" sequel are givens. There are plans for "Captain America 4", "Thor 4" and "Ant-Man 3" as well as "Nova" and "Thunderbolts". Sequels to "Black Panther" and "Captain Marvel" are also expected.

Biggest disappointment is that the films do not address Marvel TV (Agents of SHIELD, The Defenders, Cloak & Dagger). I was hoping the narrative of Infinity War would have a multiverse concept, if only to resolve the issues regarding the ties between the films and the TV shows. Since that is not happening, it means Marvel TV is absolutely separate from Marvel Films and the connection is in name only.

POWER RANGERS IN AN SRW GAME

Bandai Namco has recently announced that the May update for their Super Robot Wars SRW X-Ω (Cross Omega) mobile game will feature the Daizyujin from Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger. American fans will know this as the first season of Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers. It is worth noting however, that Zyuranger's debut it part of a special collaboration event and is only available for a limited time.

This is the first time a Super Sentai/Power Rangers series has appeared in an Super Robot Wars game (SRW for short), as the franchise is often restricted to mecha like Gundam, Macross, Gurren Lagann, Evangelion, etc. However, since its debut in Japan for smartphones in 2015, the X-Omega game has featured various shows normally not within the mecha genre, including Crayon Shin-chan, the Idolmaster, and Godzilla.

Historically, the Super Sentai series did appear in one crossover back in the Famicom (the Japanese NES). SD Battle Oozumo was sumo wrestling game featuring characters from Ultraman, Kamen Rider, Gundam, and Super Sentai (specifically Turbo Ranger, Liveman, Flashman, and Jetman. All four predate Zyuranger).

Zyuranger will make its grand debut in SRW X-Omega in May for the iOS and Android.

About Super Robot Wars -
Originally released for the Game Boy in 1991, Super Robot Wars is a long-running video game crossover franchise featuring various mecha anime. Players take the role of their favorite anime mecha from various shows like Code Geass, Full Metal Panic, The Big O, GoLion (Voltron in the US), Eureka Seven, and many more, while fighting enemies in a Turn-Based Strategy game similar to Nintendo's Fire Emblem series. Its most recent game, Super Robot Wars V, was released in early 2017 for the PS 4 and PS Vita. It is also the first in the series where it has been released in English (although only for Asian countries).

Happy 25th Birthday, Yusuke!

Studio Pierrot (Naruto, Legend of Korra) has announced a special event on April 7th to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Yu Yu Hakusho.

Created by Yoshihiro Togashi (Hunter x Hunter), the series is about the delinquent teenager Yusuke Urameshi, who after sacrificing his life to save a child from a vehicle accident, is brought back to life with special powers to serve as a detective investigating supernatural activity in the human world. Yu Yu Hakusho was among the many anime shows alongside Dragon Ball Z that became part of the anime boom in the 1990's. The series has been released in the US and other countries, sometimes under the title "The Poltergeist Report".

Teaser images for Toei's "Mazinger Z" movie

Club Dynamic, a fan club of the works of Go Nagai, has shown on their Facebook Page the following teaser images of the upcoming Mazinger Z movie by Toei. I cannot personaly confirm these, but if they are indeed true, it's impressive.

About Mazinger Z - Created by Go Nagai and originally published in Weekly Shonen Jump in October of 1972, Mazinger Z is about a teenager named Koji Kabuto, whom after learning his grandfather is killed by a mad scientist who wants to rule the world, must pilot his grandfather's invention - a giant robot designed to combat the mad scientists army of mechanical beasts. The manga would later be adapted into an anime series in December of the same year, which sparked the Golden Age of Mecha Anime.

About Toei - Toei is one of the oldest and largest animation studios in Japan. Founded in 1948, many consider Toei as the Japanese counterpart to Disney. Toei is responsible for many of the most popular anime that aired over the last 60 years, among them Dragon Ball, One Piece, Digimon, Sailor Moon, Precure, and many others.
